Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. For optimal growth, ensure the plant receives at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. It can tolerate some shade, especially in its natural wetland habitats, but full sun encourages denser foliage and better growth.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-draining to poorly-drained soils. Forestiera acuminata is highly adaptable to different soil types, including loamy, sandy, and clay soils. It is often found in wet, swampy areas but can also grow in drier conditions once established. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH range of 6.0-7.5.

Watering: Requires regular watering, especially during establishment. In its natural habitat, Forestiera acuminata often grows in wet, swampy areas, so it can tolerate flooding and standing water. However, it is also surprisingly drought-tolerant once established. For best results, keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, particularly during the growing season.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 7-9. Forestiera acuminata is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and can withstand cold winters and hot, humid summers. It is well-adapted to the diverse climate conditions of its native range in the southeastern United States.

Fertilization: Generally, Forestiera acuminata does not require much fertilization. If planted in nutrient-poor soil, you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth. Over-fertilizing is unnecessary and should be avoided, as the plant typically thrives in natural, unfertilized settings.

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to shape the plant. Light pruning can help maintain a desirable form and encourage denser growth. However, it generally requires minimal pruning as it naturally develops a pleasing shape.

Pests and Problems: Forestiera acuminata is generally pest-resistant and not prone to serious diseases. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues. Regular inspections are recommended to catch any potential problems early, but this plant is typically low-maintenance in this regard.
