| Hardiness Zones 7-9

Salvia 'Phyllis Fancy' is a unique and vigorous variety of sage, originally discovered as a chance seedling at the University of California, Santa Cruz Arboretum. While it is thought to be a hybrid between Salvia leucantha (Mexican Bush Sage) and possibly Salvia chiapensis, this has not been definitively confirmed. What makes this salvia stand out are its stunning, long-blooming flower spikes that feature delicate lavender-white flowers cupped in dark blue-purple calyces. These blooms appear from late summer to frost, adding color and movement to the garden during cooler months.

This hardy, evergreen perennial typically grows to about 4-5 feet tall and wide, with an attractive, mounding habit. The leaves are lance-shaped and velvety, creating a soft texture that contrasts beautifully with the upright flower spikes. It's an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, as it attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees.

Salvia 'Phyllis Fancy' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It's relatively drought-tolerant once established, though it will perform best with regular watering during dry spells. Hardy to USDA Zones 7-9, it can tolerate mild winters but may require protection in colder climates.
