Weigela is a deciduous shrub of rounded habit and opposite oval leaves. This cold-hardy old fashioned favorite is native to eastern Asia. 'Java Red' is an old variety also known as 'Foliis Purpureis'. It is noted for it funnel shaped flowers that open rose pink from carmine buds. The dark green foliage has a purple tint. It flowers over a long period during the growing season and is adaptable to most garden and residential landscape conditions.
