Autumn Olive is a servicable evergreen shrub with very fragrant but relatively inconspicuous flowers in the fall. This is a handsome cultivar with gold edged leaves. Autumn Olive is a large shrub but can become vine-like if allowed to scramble up into trees. Long whip-like branches can be pruned back for a tight shrub effect. It is tolerant of various soils and does well in full sun with good drainage. It is native to Japan.

This plant is adaptable to various soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils, as long as they are well-draining. Incorporating organic matter such as compost can improve soil fertility and structure.

Watering: Requires moderate watering. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply to ensure the root zone is adequately hydrated. Once established, Elaeagnus pungens 'Variegata' is drought-tolerant and can survive on natural rainfall, though it benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 7-9. Prefers moderate temperatures and can tolerate a range of humidity levels. It is adaptable to various climates within its hardiness zones. Protect the plant from severe frost, as it is not frost-tolerant.
