Pink Virginia Sweetspire 'Sarah Eve'

Itea virginica "Sarah Eve"

$23.00

1 Gallon | Hardiness Zones 6-9

This Woodlanders introduction is the first pink Itea. The flowers are essentially white but the pink pedicels make the racemes distinctly pale pink. This selection found by Nancy Bissett of The Natives in central Florida and was named for her daughter. It has dark green foliage with a purplish cast and tends to be tardily deciduous. A good garden shrub and conversation piece for the moist border in sun or semi-shade.

Light: Itea virginica "Sarah Eve" performs best in full sun to partial shade. Full sun promotes the most vibrant flower displays and fall foliage colors, but it tolerates partial shade, especially in warmer climates.

Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil with high organic matter. It can thrive in a variety of soils, including clay and sandy soils, and is well-suited to wet areas, making it an excellent choice for rain gardens or along water features.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment phase. It can tolerate periodic flooding but performs best with regular watering during dry spells.

Pruning: Prune after flowering if necessary to maintain shape. It responds well to pruning, allowing for control of height and spread.

Fertilization: Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.

Pests/Diseases: Generally pest-free and resistant to diseases. Occasionally, aphids or powdery mildew can appear in high humidity, but these are not common.

Winter Care: Hardy in USDA zones 6-9, this cultivar typically requires no special winter protection. Mulching can help insulate the roots in colder climates.
