Maple leaf Oak
Quercus acerifolia
| Hardiness Zones 5-9
Mapleleaf Oak is one of the rarest of our native oaks being found in only a few localities on mountaintops in Arkansas. It is similar to the related Shumard Oak but leaves can be quite maple-like. It is rare in cultivation and virtually unavailable in commerce. Most Mapleleaf oaks in cultivation have come from a fine specimen planted at the Morton Arboretum in Illinois. Our plants of this rare and sought after oak have come from seed collected from a cultivated tree at the Shaw Arboretum in Missouri and there appears to be little if any hybrid intergrade.
