Japanese Snowbell

Styrax japonicus

$18.00

| Hardiness Zones 5-8

In the stillness of late spring, beneath the shade of old pecans and storied oaks, Styrax japonicus—the Japanese Snowbell—makes its quiet entrance. Its branches arch like the spine of a verse, and from them hang the purest white bells—flowers that chime not with sound but with memory.

In the old gardens of Carolina and Georgia, such trees were prized—not for showy opulence, but for the kind of beauty that asks nothing of you, save your stillness.

Plant it where the morning light can dapple it through the trees, and where evening birdsong can weave through its branches. It will not rush to impress, but in time, it will become the heart of the place—offering blossoms in spring, dappled shade in summer, and a memory in the making for all who pass beneath it.

Japanese Snowbell is a small deciduous tree with medium to dark green lustrous large oval leaves and white bell-like flowers. It has attractive gray-brown, smooth bark and shows great pest resistance. Plant in full sun to partial shade in well-drained acidic soil. This is an attractive and useful small tree in much of the eastern U.S.
