Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. For optimal growth and fruit production, provide at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. It can tolerate partial shade, especially in hotter climates, but fruiting may be reduced.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH of 5.5-7.0. Feijoa is adaptable to various soil types, including sandy, loamy, and slightly clayey soils, as long as they drain well. Avoid heavy clay or waterlogged soils, which can cause root rot. Adding organic matter like compost can improve soil fertility and structure.

Watering: Requires regular watering, particularly during the establishment phase and fruiting period. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, Feijoa sellowiana is moderately drought-tolerant but will produce better fruit with regular watering during dry spells. Deep watering is preferred to encourage deep root growth.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 8-11. Feijoa is a subtropical plant and prefers mild temperatures. It can tolerate light frosts once established but should be protected from severe frost, especially when young. High humidity is generally well-tolerated, but good air circulation is important to prevent fungal diseases.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring and again in mid-summer to support healthy growth and fruit production. Additional compost or well-rotted manure can enhance soil fertility. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers, as these can promote excessive vegetative growth at the expense of flowering and fruiting.

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning helps maintain a compact shape and encourages better air circulation. Feijoa can also be trained as a hedge or small tree, depending on the desired form. Regular pruning can improve fruit production.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract scale insects, aphids, and fruit flies. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases like leaf spot and root rot. If pests are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regular inspections help in early detection and management of pests and diseases.
