A timeless favorite with a bright twist. Weigela florida 'Variegata' is a compact, deciduous shrub grown for two gifts at once: cream-edged, softly variegated foliage and a late-spring flood of deep rose-pink, trumpet-shaped flowers. The genus honors the German botanist Christian Ehrenfried Weigel, and the species florida, meaning flowering, ranges as a wild plant through northern China, Korea, and Japan.
Marked with soft yellow to creamy white margins, the leaves carry the shrub through the whole season, long after the flowers fade. 'Variegata' has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for reliable, all-round garden performance, and the trumpet flowers draw hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, adding motion and biodiversity to the border.
Compact and rounded to four to six feet, the variegated weigela suits a mixed border, a foundation planting, or a cottage-style garden, lovely against darker-leaved shrubs that set off the pale margins. The plant reads as a foliage feature between bloom cycles and a flowering one in late spring.
Easy and adaptable, Weigela 'Variegata' thrives in full sun to light shade and well-drained soil, and asks only for a pruning right after flowering, since the blooms come on the previous year's wood. Cut back the spent flowering stems to keep a tidy, rounded shape and to encourage a lighter repeat flush later in the season.

What to expect upon delivery
All our plants are sold in 1-gallon sizes, though the height of each plant can vary depending on its growth rate and seasonality, typically ranging from 1/2 to 2.5 feet.
Each plant is carefully packaged with its roots enclosed in a secure plastic bag containing moist soil, forming a compact root ball. To ensure safe transport, the box is padded with recycled newspaper, providing both stability and eco-friendly protection from weather during shipping.
