PLANT DETAILS

Hardiness Zones: 4 - 9

Soil: Moist

Sun: Part Shade and Full Shade

Seasonal Behavior: Deciduous

Growth Rate: Slow

Height at Maturity: 12 - 15 Inches

Spread at Maturity: 10 - 15 Inches

Light Requirements: Prefers partial to full shade. It can tolerate some morning sun, but excessive direct sunlight can cause the foliage to scorch and the plant to dry out.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in moist, well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. This sedge prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0). Adding compost or leaf mold can improve soil fertility and structure.

Watering: Requires consistent moisture, especially during the growing season. Water deeply to ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and maintain a cool root environment.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 4-9. Prefers moderate temperatures and high humidity. It is well-suited for woodland gardens and areas with naturally moist conditions.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth. An annual application of compost or well-rotted manure can enhance soil fertility and promote vigorous growth.

Pruning: Trim back old or damaged foliage in early spring to encourage new growth. Light pruning can be done throughout the growing season to maintain a tidy appearance.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract aphids and other sap-sucking insects. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. If pests are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal infections.

Suitable Environment: Ideal for shaded garden areas, woodland gardens, and as a ground cover under trees and shrubs. Its attractive blue-green foliage adds texture and color to shaded landscapes.
