Care Info

Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. For optimal growth and flowering, ensure the plant receives at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. It can tolerate partial shade, especially in hotter climates.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in moist, well-draining soil. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5-7.0). Incorporating organic matter such as compost can improve soil fertility and structure. It can tolerate wet soils, making it suitable for planting near water bodies or in areas with periodic flooding.

Watering: Requires regular watering, especially during dry periods. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Established plants can tolerate short periods of drought but perform best with consistent moisture. Mulching can help retain soil moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 6-10. Prefers moderate temperatures and can tolerate a range of humidity levels. It is adaptable to various climates within its hardiness zones but should be protected from extreme cold and heat.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. An annual application of compost or well-rotted manure can enhance soil fertility. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowering.

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to shape the tree. Light pruning helps maintain a tidy appearance and promotes better air circulation. Remove any suckers that emerge at the base of the plant to maintain its shape.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract aphids, scale insects, and spider mites. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases. If pests are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regularly inspect the plant for any signs of disease or pest infestation.
