Care Info

Read full care instruction manual here.

Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. While it can tolerate some shade, full sun encourages the best growth and flowering.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-draining, fertile soil. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0). Amending the soil with organic matter such as compost can improve soil fertility and drainage.

Watering: Requires regular watering, especially during the growing season. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. In drier climates or during prolonged dry spells, increase watering frequency to maintain soil moisture.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 8-11. Prefers warm temperatures and moderate to high humidity. Protect from frost and cold winds. In cooler climates, it can be grown as an annual or brought indoors during winter.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and abundant flowering. An additional application of liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season can enhance bloom production.

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the plant and remove dead or damaged branches. Regular pruning encourages bushier growth and more prolific flowering. Deadhead spent flowers to promote continuous blooming.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal diseases. If pests are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Suitable Environment: Ideal for garden beds, borders, and as a container plant. Its vibrant pink to red tubular flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies, making it a great addition to pollinator gardens.

Growth Rate: Cestrum elegans var. smithii typically exhibits a fast growth rate. With proper care, it can quickly establish and provide lush foliage and vibrant blooms.
