Light Requirements: Prefers partial shade to full shade. While it can tolerate full sun, especially in cooler climates, it thrives best with filtered light. Direct, intense sunlight can scorch the leaves, particularly in hotter regions.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-draining, acidic soil. It prefers a pH range of 4.5-6.0. Amending the soil with organic matter such as peat moss, pine needles, or compost can improve soil structure and fertility. Avoid heavy clay soils or alkaline soils unless adequately amended.

Watering: Requires consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Water deeply and regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Mulching around the base of the plant helps retain soil moisture and regulate soil temperature. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 5-8. Prefers moderate temperatures and high humidity. Protect the plant from extreme heat and cold. In colder regions, mulching and providing wind protection can help prevent winter damage.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants in early spring. An additional light application in late spring or early summer can support growth and flowering. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to root burn and excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers.

Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering to shape the plant and remove spent blooms. Light pruning helps maintain a compact shape and promotes air circulation. Avoid heavy pruning, which can reduce next year’s bloom.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant but can occasionally attract aphids, spider mites, and lace bugs. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases like powdery mildew and root rot. If pests are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regular inspection helps in early detection and management of pests and diseases.
