Preziosa' is a mophead-type hydrangea which is varyingly listed as a cultivar of H. serrata or as a cultivar of H. macrophylla or as a hybrid between the two. Features small mophead-like panicles (3-4") in which the showy sterile florets progress through several different color changes (white to pink to reddish-purple) over a long summer to fall period. Serrate leaves emerge purple-tinted, mature to green and again acquire red to purple tints in fall. Dark maroon stems. Best grown in rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade. Tolerates full sun only if grown with consistently moist soils. (Info from Missouri Botanical Garden).

Light Requirements: Prefers partial shade to full sun. "Pink Beauty" thrives in morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates, where the afternoon sun can be intense. In cooler regions, it can tolerate more direct sunlight, which can help produce more vibrant blooms. However, too much direct sun in hot areas can cause leaf scorch.

Soil Requirements: Prefers well-draining, fertile soil. "Pink Beauty" thrives in rich, loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.5-7.0). The flower color can vary depending on the soil pH—more acidic soils produce deeper pink to purple flowers, while more alkaline soils yield lighter pink blooms. Amending the soil with organic matter, such as compost or peat moss, helps improve soil structure, fertility, and moisture retention.

Watering: Requires regular watering, especially during dry periods. The soil should be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Hydrangeas are water-loving plants, and "Pink Beauty" needs ample moisture, particularly during the growing season. Deep watering is recommended to ensure the roots receive adequate moisture. Mulching around the base of the plant helps retain soil moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 5-9. "Pink Beauty" is well-suited to temperate climates and can tolerate cold winters, going dormant and regrowing in the spring. It prefers moderate to high humidity levels but can adapt to varying conditions. In areas with hot, dry summers, additional watering and protection from the intense afternoon sun are necessary to keep the plant healthy.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms. A second feeding in mid-summer can help sustain the plant during the peak blooming period. Use a fertilizer specifically designed for hydrangeas or one that is low in phosphorus to avoid excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Adjust the fertilizer according to the desired bloom color (use aluminum sulfate for blue/purple flowers and garden lime for pink blooms).

Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring. "Pink Beauty" blooms on both old and new wood, so heavy pruning should be avoided as it could reduce the number of flowers for the following season. Remove dead or weak stems and shape the plant as needed. Deadheading spent flowers throughout the blooming season can encourage continued flowering and maintain the plant’s appearance.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant, but may occasionally be affected by aphids, spider mites, or powdery mildew. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases. If pests or diseases are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regular inspection and maintaining garden hygiene can help keep the plant healthy.
