Weigela is a deciduous shrub of rounded habit and opposite oval leaves. This cold-hardy old-fashioned favorite is native to eastern Asia. 'Java Red' is an old variety also known as 'Foliis Purpureis'.

'Java Red' is noted for funnel-shaped flowers that open rose pink from carmine buds. The dark green foliage carries a purple tint. These shrubs flower over a long period during the growing season and adapt to most garden and residential landscape conditions.
