About the Rare & Unusual Collection

Woodlanders exists because of the plants that are hard to find. Some are rare in the wild and always were, endemic to one river system or one ridge. Some were common once and are not now. Some were never rare at all, only overlooked, passed hand to hand between gardeners while the trade moved on to whatever shipped more easily. All of them are here for the same reason: nobody else was going to grow them.

This is the whole of that part of the catalog, several hundred plants deep and changing constantly, since rarity and availability are the same problem seen from two directions. Filter by zone, sun, and soil to find what will actually live where you garden, and read the listings; most carry the story of where the plant came from and who kept the line going. For the smallest and strangest end of the list, see Curiosities.
