Flower Description:

The blooms are trumpet-shaped and grow in clusters, with deep rose-pink outer petals and golden-orange throats. They’re richly fragrant—especially in the evening—and appear continuously from late spring through summer, often with a second flush in early fall. The flowers are a major draw for hummingbirds and butterflies.

Foliage Description:

Semi-evergreen to deciduous depending on your climate. The leaves are oval to slightly oblong, a soft blue-green in color, and arranged in pairs along the stem. In warmer zones, some foliage may persist through winter, giving the vine a bit of off-season presence.

Light:

'Goldflame' loves the sun—plant it in full sun for the best flower show. It can tolerate a bit of light shade, especially in hotter climates, but blooms may be fewer.

Soil:

Not picky about soil, as long as it drains well. It does fine in average garden soil and even handles clay if it’s not soggy.

Watering:

Water regularly during the first growing season to help it establish a strong root system. Once established, it's fairly drought-tolerant but appreciates a good soak during dry spells.

Pruning:

Give it a good pruning in late winter or early spring to tidy it up and encourage fresh growth. You can also lightly shape it throughout the season if it gets a little too enthusiastic.

Support:

It’s a twiner, so give it something to climb—an arbor, trellis, or fence works great. It won’t cling to walls on its own, so it’ll need a little structure to wind around.

Fertilizer:

A balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can help fuel vigorous growth, but it’s not essential if your soil is decent.

Pests/Disease:

Generally trouble-free. Keep an eye out for aphids or powdery mildew, especially in areas with poor airflow, but problems are usually minor.
