This tall sage has spikes of purple flowers and in this selection the flowers are all purple without the white corollas of the common kind. It flowers in summer. It is a clump forming perennial sage that prefers rich garden soil and benefits from light fertilization.
It thrives in full-sun exposure, but can grow well in half-sun as well. It is very aromatic and attracts bees. It is a popular ornamental sage in southern gardens and landscape plantings.
It is native to Mexico, 'Midnight' produces many lavender flowers which continue from late summer through the first frost. Salvia leucantha is fairly hardy and has velvety, fragrant leaves. This makes them unappealing to insects, and these plants are very resistant to diseases.
