Viburnum nudum Winterthur is a deciduous native shrub with upright growth and strong structure, selected by the late Hal Bruce of Winterthur Gardens in Delaware. Its glossy green leaves support seasonal change and provide color and coverage.
Awarded the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society Gold Medal (Styer Award) in 1991, this Winterthur viburnum produces creamy-white flowers in spring. By late season, the plant forms berries that shift in color from white to pink to blue. These berries attract birds and contribute to native habitat value.
Grow the native viburnum shrub in wet to average soil. It suits mixed borders, native gardens, and moist woodland edges. This flowering native shrub provides a year-round shape and seasonal fruit interest.
