Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. For best flowering, provide at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. While it tolerates partial shade, blooming may be reduced in lower light conditions. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade can help prevent leaf scorch.

Soil Requirements: Thrives in well-draining soil. 'Margarita' prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH range of 5.5-7.0. This plant is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils, provided they have good drainage. Incorporating organic matter like compost can enhance soil structure and fertility.

Watering: Requires moderate watering. Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during the growing season, but avoid waterlogging. Once established, 'Margarita' is relatively drought-tolerant but will perform best with regular watering during dry spells. Deep watering is recommended to encourage a robust root system.

Temperature and Humidity: Hardy in USDA zones 6-9. Gelsemium sempervirens 'Margarita' is known for its cold hardiness compared to other varieties, making it suitable for a wider range of climates. It can withstand temperatures as low as -10°F (-23°C). The plant thrives in moderate humidity and is well-adapted to the conditions found in the southeastern United States.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and prolific flowering. An additional light application in mid-summer can sustain growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth with fewer flowers.

Pruning: Prune after the flowering period to shape the plant and remove any dead or damaged stems. Pruning encourages denser growth and helps keep the plant within the desired size. 'Margarita' tends to grow vigorously, so regular pruning may be necessary to maintain its shape, especially when grown as a climber on trellises or fences.

Pests and Problems: Generally pest-resistant, but it may occasionally attract pests like aphids or spider mites. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases, such as powdery mildew or root rot. If pests or diseases are detected, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Regular inspection and proper garden hygiene can help keep the plant healthy.
